The battery tester is a voltmeter with a load resistor measuring the voltage of the battery under load. Thus a precise evaluation of the charging level of your 12 volts battery can be made. Simply connect the clips of the voltmeter to the battery poles and switch on. By means of the scale you can read the exact charging level.

12.7 volts battery is full
12.3 volts battery 50 % charged
12.1 volts battery 35 % charged

(Indications refer to a 12 volts lead-acid battery which has not been under load for 4 to 5 preceding hours)

With a hydrometer the charging level of a lead acid battery is determined by means of the density. By measuring the density of the acid the following statements regarding the stat of charging can be made (at 25 °C):

1.28 kg/l battery is full
1.20 kg/l battery 50 % charged
1.10 kg/l battery is empty

It is important for the maintenance of a battery to remove the grey-white efflorescence and the crusts of dirt in regularly. Helpful tools to clean the battery poles are our pole cleaners. After cleaning the battery poles should be covered with special pole grease.

Pole shoes provide the connection between the battery and the electric system of your car. It is important to check this connection when maintaining your battery regularly. If necessary the pole shoes should be replaced in order to assure a loss-free and tight connection to the battery.
